ThreadCount for iPad & Mac
Stuck on something? The answers below cover the common questions. If yours isn't here, email support@threadcount.app — a real person (John) reads everything.
Importing charts
Which pattern files does ThreadCount support?
ThreadCount reads PDF and OXS cross-stitch patterns. Digitally-generated (vector) PDFs from charting software parse best — crisp grids, exact symbols, accurate legends. Scanned or image-based PDFs are supported too, though results depend on scan quality. OXS is usually the most reliable option when your design software can export it.
Multi-page charts are joined automatically into one continuous pattern, including designs with page overlap regions.
My chart won't import, or the colours look wrong. What now?
Email support@threadcount.app with what went wrong. If you have permission to share the pattern file, including it can help because designer charts vary widely. Any pattern supplied for diagnosis is used only to fix the problem and is deleted afterwards.
The legend shows a thread the colour database doesn't know.
Specialty fibres (Kreinik metallics and friends) aren't always in the built-in database. During import, ThreadCount shows these under “Unknown Threads” with the colour read from the chart's printed swatch — adjust it if it looks off, and your choice is remembered for future imports.
Does importing change my original PDF?
Never. ThreadCount reads your PDF and builds its own pattern from it. The original file is untouched.
Stitching & progress
How do I mark stitches as completed?
Choose Select, then tap one stitch or drag across several. The blue outlines are only a pending selection: choose Mark Stitched to confirm, Mark Unstitched to frog them, or Clear to cancel without changing your progress.
To work one colour at a time, select its legend row and choose Select All … Stitches. You can then confirm the whole colour together.
What does “This sitting” mean?
It is the work you have recorded in your current stretch of stitching: stitches marked, stitches unmarked, corrections, and active stitching time. Putting ThreadCount in the background or taking a short break does not immediately end it. After one hour without stitching activity, your next change begins a new sitting.
How do I park a thread?
Choose Park, select the corner the thread enters from, then tap the next stitch hole where it is waiting. Open Parked to list every waiting thread and jump back to one. Parking remembers a working position; it does not mark that stitch complete.
Are my statistics or achievements sent anywhere?
No. ThreadCount calculates statistics and achievements from activity stored with your projects. You can share an achievement card or export CSV or JSON yourself, but ThreadCount has no developer-operated analytics account and does not upload your stitching history to us.
Where is my progress stored? Will I lose it?
Patterns and progress are stored on your device, and — when you're signed in to iCloud — synced to your private iCloud database. A lost, broken, or replaced iPad doesn't cost you your stitching: install ThreadCount on the new device, sign in with the same Apple Account, and your projects come back.
If you're not signed in to iCloud, everything stays on-device only, so deleting the app deletes its data — back up first if you're reinstalling.
Can I sync progress between my iPad and my Mac?
Yes. Sign in to the same Apple Account on both and your projects and progress sync automatically through your private iCloud — mark stitches on the iPad on the couch, and the Mac catches up on its own. No account with us, no setup.
Is there an iPhone version?
ThreadCount is designed for the screens people actually stitch from: iPad and Mac. An iPhone version may come later.
Purchases
What's free and what's paid?
ThreadCount is free to download and use with one active pattern project — every feature included, no time limit. A single one-time purchase (Full Unlock) removes the one-pattern limit. There is no subscription.
I bought Full Unlock but it's showing as locked.
Purchases are tied to your Apple Account. Make sure you're signed in with the account that made the purchase, then choose Restore Purchase from the app's + menu or the unlock screen. Still stuck? Email us.
How do refunds work?
Purchases are processed by Apple, so refunds go through them: visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose the purchase. Apple usually responds within a day or two.
