Privacy Policy
Effective 30 July 2026
ThreadCount is made by John MacFadyen (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the ThreadCount app for iPad and Mac, and the threadcount.app website.
The short version: ThreadCount collects no data. None.
What the app stores
Everything ThreadCount works with stays on your device:
- Patterns you import. When you import a PDF or OXS pattern, ThreadCount parses it and stores the resulting pattern on your device.
- Your progress and activity. Stitch marks, colour progress, project settings, stitching activity used for statistics, and achievements are stored on your device.
- Preferences. App settings are stored on your device.
None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else. The only network connection ThreadCount makes is to Apple's iCloud — to sync your own data with your own account (see below). ThreadCount works fully offline; syncing simply waits until you're connected.
Statistics, achievements, and exports
Statistics and achievements are calculated inside ThreadCount from the activity saved with your projects. We do not receive or analyse them. If you choose to share an achievement card or export statistics as CSV or JSON, the app opens Apple’s standard share sheet and sends the file only to the destination you choose. Statistics exports do not include pattern artwork or stitch coordinates.
iCloud sync
If you're signed in to iCloud, ThreadCount syncs your patterns and progress to your private iCloud database so they follow you across your devices and survive a lost or replaced iPad.
- The data goes to your iCloud account, not to us. We have no ability to read it — Apple's CloudKit private database is accessible only to you.
- Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Prefer no cloud at all? Sign out of iCloud (or disable iCloud for ThreadCount in Settings) and everything stays on-device only.
What we collect
Nothing. ThreadCount has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, no accounts, and no server of ours. We never see your patterns, your progress, or anything about you.
Purchases
The optional Full Unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive no personal information about you from your purchase. Apple's handling of purchase data is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
App Store data
If you choose to share crash reports or usage statistics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may provide us with aggregated, de-identified crash and usage data. That sharing is controlled by you in Settings and governed by Apple's privacy policy — it is not collected by the app itself.
The website
threadcount.app is a static website. It uses no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking. Standard web server logs (IP address, request time) may be kept briefly by the hosting provider for operational purposes.
If you email support@threadcount.app, we'll have your email address and whatever you send us. We use it only to reply and help you, we don't add you to any list, and we don't share it with anyone.
Children
ThreadCount is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date. Given the app collects nothing, changes are unlikely.
